Russ, Garrett, Grant and Chris Homer went to Yellowstone for a week.
Mom took occupancy at the Hyde home with Kori and Gracie.
Which meant she had to do all the jobs that Russ usually does.
From getting Kori up in the night a couple of times to go to the bathroom
to showering her and washing her hair.
There are some things that are alright for your husband to perform
but downright horrifying for your mom to perform.
Showering you would be one of those things.
I imagine they worked out a mutually agreeable plan to lessen the effects
of the task.
Nevertheless a shower was taken daily.
Mom said she was fairly successful overall as a round the clock caregiver, with the exception of a "very graceful" dropping of the patient
somewhere in the neighborhood of 2:00 am one of the nights.
No injuries were reported.... but it was quite complicated to get Kori up off the floor.
But, mom has developed superhuman strength and she harnessed that power on the 15th try and it finally worked. Needless to say, they were both wide awake and sleep that night didn't come very easily to either of them.
Mom was able to gently remove Kori's radiation burn scabs from her head with persistent gentle scrubbing with astringent. Which I am assuming was not at all annoying to Kori. She should be used to it since Mom used to do that kind of stuff to us when we were little...
"Come over here, let me work on that zit"
"Want me to peel your sunburned back?"
Not to mention
"take that shirt off and let me iron it correctly"
or my favorite
"let me re-part your hair, it's not perfectly straight"
Happiest of Days for all involved that Russ is home now.
Therapy continues to bring progress. Albeit, slow. But progress still the same.
She walks independently almost all the time now and hardly uses her wheelchair anymore.
She will continue to have "maintenance" chemotherapy which is 5 days on and 23 days off for all or a portion of the next year.
She tolerated the first round very well.
Kori will have an MRI on Friday, September 18th.
We are asking for your prayers in her behalf on that day.
She saw Dr. Richards today. She doesn't have to go back to the office for 3 months. He is a wonderful doctor, but she is not sad to not have to go there for a while. Everyone was clapping as she walked into the office by herself. Then Dr. Richards came into the room where they were waiting and said "good news travels like wild fire in this office. Everyone is telling me that Kori WALKED into the office"... Then he made her walk out for him. He was so sweet and complimentary of her. He said "I know it seems slow to you because you are living it everyday, but this is a HUGE improvement to me!! I have never even seen you standing up and now you're walking. I didn't realize you were so tall. This is so exciting for me to see."
